Yes, completely. We suggest parents at Somerleyton who live near you and have children in similar year groups, but nothing happens automatically. You pick who you’d like to approach.
If you don’t know each other yet, you meet before you agree anything, and either of you can stop.
Lift sharing is already recognised and supported in the UK. The Association of British Insurers, whose members represent around 95% of the motor insurance market, has long said that car sharing does not normally affect a driver’s cover, as long as:
- you’re not making a profit
- any contributions only cover running costs
- the vehicle seats eight passengers or fewer
Over 300 insurers are ABI members. Terms do vary between providers and change over time, so if you have any concerns, check with your own insurer before you start.
The same rules apply as on any other car journey. Children normally need an appropriate car seat or booster until they’re 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first (GOV.UK).
Families usually find one of two approaches works: either the seat travels with the child, or each family keeps a spare in their car.

Life happens! If you’re running late, someone is poorly or plans change, just let the other parent know as soon as you can.
It’s worth agreeing a backup plan together for those unexpected mornings, so everyone knows what to do.
We use your details to verify you and to suggest matches.
Your licence and ID are checked and then stored securely, but no other parent sees it. If you leave the pilot early, ask us and we’ll delete your record.
